E-mail accounts for copydesk.orgAs of May 1, 2010, the American Copy Editors Society no longer offers new e-mail accounts to its members because of the amount of upkeep involved and the continued problem of phantom and spam accounts being created. As a result, new copydesk.org e-mail accounts will be reserved for official society business. All existing e-mail accounts, however, will continue to operate. For questions about this policy change, please e-mail Daniel Hunt at dan@copydesk.org. To log in, please use the form on the right. Important datesACES is aiming to phase out our e-mail hosting service for all users by the end of summer 2010, and provide only forwarding accounts. We will provide all users with updates well ahead of the deadline. What is e-mail forwarding?E-mail forwarding generically refers to the operation of re-sending an e-mail message delivered to one e-mail address on to a possibly different e-mail address. The term "forwarding" has no specific technical meaning. E-mail forwarding can also redirect messages going to one address and send it to one or several other addresses. Vice versa, e-mail items going to several different addresses can converge via forwarding to end up in a single address inbox. ACES utilizes forwarding to give some users a copydesk.org address without having an actual sign on. For example, a message to joe@copydesk.org could be forwarded to joe@gmail.com or joe@yahoo.com, or both. To switch your e-mail from a regular account to a forwarding one, please remove all important messages (eg. save them to a new account or locally on your computer) then e-mail Daniel Hunt at dan@copydesk.org to have it set up. |
